Every so often we forget that celebrities are still average people with their fair share of ups, downs, trials, and tribulations. The only difference between them and the common civilian is that they are under constant observation through a magnifying lens. What we see in the media most times are them living lavish lifestyles, having endless fame, and them “living their best lives”, and other times, we see their not-so-lavish moments.
Britney Spears has been under that magnifying lens for quite some time. The pop icon, whose hits include “…Baby One More Time”, “Oops!…I Did It Again”, and “Toxic”, has been in and out of spotlight for most of her career.
We have seen Spears flourish, but we have also witnessed a period of her life that was not so great. What we did not know, was the pain that she has been enduring over the years, who has been causing it, and how these situations have affected her mentally, emotionally, spiritually, and physically. A new documentary gives us glimpse into that pain.
A new documentary by The New York Times Presents titled “Framing Britney Spears” focuses on Spears’s conservatorship, which is a legal arrangement that has, since 2008, allowed her father to have main control over her finances, career, and personal life. The conservatorship has taken tolls on Spears that we cannot fathom.
The pictures that are now being painted about the icon and her troubles are truly heartbreaking, and fans and supporters from around the globe have expressed their sympathies and support. The hashtag #FreeBritney has resurfaced as the support grows even more.
Some celebrities who have voiced their support and solidarity include Miley Cyrus, Sarah Jessica Parker, Bette Midler, and Andy Cohen.
The support for Britney Spears and her ongoing battle grows by the day. We see you; we are proud of you and we stand with you. #FreeBritney
“Framing Britney Spears” is available for streaming on FX and Hulu.
