Viola Davis on parenting on the Jennifer Hudson Show

Viola Davis, 57, appeared on the Jennifer Hudson Show Friday, September 16, 2022. Hudson, a mother to a teenage son, asked Davis for parenting advice on raising teenagers, “So, I have a son. What is it like having a girl as a preteen?” Davis’s response was that of many parents. When you are dealing with preteens and teenagers, “Well, she’s in the rolling eye phase, now you know we couldn’t roll our eyes back in the day because your head would be rolling on the floor” [laughs] without apology, “but we’re in a different stage now right.” When Hudson brought up the subject of kids’ homework, the How to Get Away with Murder actress said she told her daughter Genesis Tennon whom she shares with her husband, Julius Tennon. “I told Genesis, let’s get this out of the way right now, me and your dad. We can’t help you with your homework. Our brain cells have died. They died many years ago so we are going to have to bring someone else into this house to help you with your homework because I can’t do it. I looked at that math (algebra) all I know is I’m glad I’m not her [laughs].”

We love Davis’s parenting humor.
