NBA All-Star 2024 wrapped Sunday, but if you’re anything like most, you have your favorites from the event-filled days leading up to the big game, which for most included the 3-Point contest with NBA Champion Stephen Curry and WNBA star Sabrina Lonescu. Though we all know who won, we’re still celebrating that Lonescu held her own against Curry. Here are three things to know about the face of the WNBA.

πŸ€ Last summer, the WNBA player for the New York Liberty made history as she put on the single-best shooting display in NBA/WNBA 3-point contest history when she torched the nets during All-Star Weekend in Las Vegas.

NBA/WNBA

πŸ€ Lonescu’s optimistic energy is great for young women athletes coming behind her. After her contest loss with Curry, she had this to say, β€œTo just keep believing in myself. You know, 10 years ago, I never would have thought this was possible. And so being able to be up here … it’s a blessing and an opportunity to even be in the same conversation as Steph and to be able to see how much he’s respected me as a player and a basketball player and a person to want to come out here and do this.”

πŸ€ Crossover appeal of WNBA players for NBA fans. The Stephen vs. Sabrina was a win-win for the game of basketball because it drew in the opinions of young athletes like high school varsity basketball player Dante Peters of Houston, TX, who says, “she’s a good shooter, but he’s a better shooter.” But the respect for Lonescu is there.
