Michelle Obama Celebrates A Birthday And Launches New IGTV Show

Happy Birthday, Michelle Obama. The Former First Lady is fifty-six years young today on the heels of announcing a new show about college freshman on IGTV.

A Year of Firsts is about the lives of four college freshmen from different parts of the country.  The series will stream on IGTV (Instagram’s app for longform videos).

“The first year of college is exciting, but also a little nerve-racking. As a first-generation college student myself, I know how intimidating it can be to try to navigate through a new place and make new friends, all while trying to figure out who you are and who you want to be. That’s why I’m so excited that @reachhigher is teaming up with @attndotcom to share the stories of four first-year college students: Robert, Linette, Regan, and Haseeb. Can’t wait for you all to meet them and learn more about what taking that leap really feels like, day in and day out. Stay tuned!”

Obama has long championed for higher education for youths since her days in the White House, especially through her Reach Higher initiative. Her background and personal experiences help students to navigate issues like finances, school, physical and mental health, and relationships.

The show will include six episodes to premiere in January through June and is in partnership with the media company ATTN:

Since leaving the White House, Obama has written a New York Times Best Seller memoir Becoming, and created the Higher Ground Productions company with husband Barack. Their documentary feature, American Factory, a production deal with Netflix, recently received an Academy Award nomination.
