Gabrielle Union visited the set of Good Morning America virtually on Tuesday, September 8 to discuss her magazine photo shoot with a black female photographer.
The ‘L.A.’s Finest’ actress mentioned the new issue of Women’s Health magazine was the best of her 25 year career.
“I don’t think I’ve ever felt more powerful,” Union told “Good Morning America. It was the first time shooting a cover with a Black female photographer and I’ve been in the business 25 years — so it’s unfortunate that it took that long to happen, but it just felt so empowering to be shot by a Black woman.”

These are #bts pics from my @womenshealthmag shoot. It was the 1st time feeling truly like myself in front of the camera. The me that my loved ones see everyday. The me that fights daily for my peace and the peace of others. The imperfect warrior thats lost more battles than I’ve won, but still keeps on fighting. At this grown ass age, I feel like I’m finally ME. And I can breathe. And as long as I have breath, my ass can keep fighting. @flawlessbygu got me rocking my own curls and feeling like a #flawlessbeauties 🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤
Union also said it was “the first time I wore my own hair — no wigs or clips or weaves or anything just my own natural curls and I felt so amazing — I was fully in my body and I felt like my most authentic self.”
L.A.’s Finest is an action-drama that stars Gabrielle Union as Special Agent/Detective Lieutenant Sydney “Syd” Burnett. Jessica Alba plays Nancy McKenna, a working stepmother and secret former career criminal who is Syd’s new partner and friend in the LAPD.
Season 2 of ‘L.A.’s Finest’ airs tomorrow, September 9, 2020. Check local listings.
