Tyler Perry’s political comedy Miss Governor will end after one season. Co-creator, Niya Palmer, who we spoke with when the show premiered in May 2025, says of the recent news.

The comedy starred actress and director, Terri J. Vaughn, (Antoinette Dunkerson) whose show concept was brought to life by Palmer and Tyler Perry. The series follows Vaughn’s character as she makes history as Mississippi’s first Black lieutenant governor. The show blended family comedy with political stakes, positioning Antoinette against Governor Harper’s (Robert Craighead) anachronistic worldview.

Palmer remains positive and appreciative of the whole experience. “I’m proud of what we built,” says the writer and executive producer. “Forward always 🫶🏽.”
Miss Governor, originally titled She the People aired 16-episodes— first installment in May 22 and the remaining eight episodes in August 14, 2025. Along with Co-creators Tyler Perry and Niya Palmer, Keisha Lance Bottoms and Terri J. Vaughn rounded out the production as executive producers.
