On Monday, CBS and the TV Academy announced that Cedric the Entertainer will be hosting the 2021 Emmys.
The actor and comedian will make his Emmy hosting debut in September in front of a live audience with a “limited audience of nominees and their guests.”
The 2020 Emmy Awards were held virtually due to the pandemic, and winners had to give their speeches over video chat.
Chairman and CEO of the Academy Frank Sherman said, “Cedric the Entertainer has been a wonderful friend to the Television Academy and our Foundation, and we are thrilled that he will bring his unique comedic perspective to the Emmy ceremony and telecast that marks our return to celebrating nominees and presenters live and in-person.”
“Since I was a little boy huddled up next to my grandmother, television has been my reliable friend, so it is an enormous honor for me to host this year’s Emmy Awards,” said the comedian.
“I can’t wait to take the stage to celebrate all of the great shows and performances that made us laugh, cry, dance, and sing over the past year.” he continued.
The Emmys will take place at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on September 19, and the nominees for the awards will be released on the morning of July 13.
