Britney Spears Adressed her Conservatorship

On Wednesday, Britney Spears appeared in court to discuss her 13-year conservatorship. She addressed the ways in which other people, including her father, Jamie Spears, were overseeing her life and her finances.

According to CNN, the beloved pop star said she felt forced to perform, was given no privacy, made to use birth control, take medication, and attend therapy sessions against her will. “I just want my life back. It’s been 13 years and it’s enough,” said Britney during the hearing. The next court hearing is said to be set for July 14.

After speaking out, Britney received an outpour of support from fans and other celebrities, including former boyfriend singer and actor Justin Timberlake and Mariah Carey. Timberlake tweeted a thread of messages which began with, “After what we saw today, we should all be supporting Britney at this time.” Mariah Carey tweeted, “We love you Britney!!! Stay strong,” followed by three heart emojis.

Following the court hearing, #FreeBritney has been trending throughout social media.
