Singer and producer Justin Timberlake helped to launch a songwriting lab at the Stax Music Academy in his hometown of Memphis. Justin and Levi’s, the San Francisco based clothing brand project, plans included installing the lab to help students cultivate their songwriting talents.
“Just the songwriting part it’s so important to me. It’s almost unfair to make it an elective. It should be a whole experience,” said the Memphis native during an interview with Levi’s music project.
The next youth generation of students in the writing lab will include a new Songwriting and Music Business cohort that started in mid-August. Twenty-five students will take a year of learning the process behind the music industry.
“I remember saying lets really get involved with the kids. I don’t want to just show up and say hi you know.. follow your dreams. I want to pass on to them what I and the people I collaborated with just our experiences not necessary our knowledge but our perspectives,” said Timberlake.
Not only is Timberlake thinking about producing and singing his music. He also wants to encourage the youth of his hometown to have access to music education programs, community resources, and knowledge with industry-leading musicians. Although he previously announced his new fashion fall collaboration with Levi’s, his latest achievement is to share and contribute to the Stax Music Academy beyond the music world.
