5 Methods on How to Cope with Anxiety

“Anxiety is on the rise,” says Dr. Tamika Henry, MD, MBA, founder of Unlimited Health Institute. Here she shares five methods on how to cope with anxiety in this health and wellness read.

4 additional methods on how to cope with anxiety:

Breathing Exercises: There is power in the breath. Box Breathing can help a person who has anxiety to quickly gain control over their anxious thought life and recenter them. The Box Breathing Method is as follows: inhale for 4 seconds, hold for 4 seconds, exhale for 4 seconds and hold for 4 seconds. Then repeat the cycle.

Meditation: Having a daily morning meditation practice has been quite beneficial for anxiety. Meditation helps you to start the day right and allows you to set the intention of having a great day.

Proper Sleep Hygiene: The body repairs and restores with rest. We are quick to recharge our devices. The readiness to recharge our electronics should just as quickly translate into recharging our bodies with proper sleep. Setting the alarm to go to bed is a powerful tool to help ensure adequate sleep. Proper sleep helps with anxiety.

Movement: Physical activity can help activate our neurotransmitters (our feel-good hormones), serotonin, and dopamine. The movement also creates a change in position, which can help redirect anxious thoughts or worries.
