Taylor Swift says she wanted to write a song for Toy Story 5—but worried about taking the opportunity away from another songwriter.
During a Q&A with director Andrew Stanton after a special screening on November 1, Swift said she repeatedly checked whether the filmmakers had approached someone else while she was unavailable. “I don’t want to kick somebody off of this project that you reached out to after me,” she said. Yahoo
Stanton said Swift was the only artist he had in mind for the film’s end-credits song. He wanted a different musical direction for the fifth installment, rather than continuing with Randy Newman, who has written music for the franchise since the original *Toy Story* in 1995. “Nothing else made sense,” Stanton said. Swift ultimately wrote “I Knew It, I Knew You” for the film. The story behind the collaboration has become part of the song’s pop-culture moment: a high-profile star sought the project but also wanted to make sure the opportunity was genuinely hers to accept. Yahoo
