Serena Williams announces she is pregnant with 2nd child during Monday’s Met Gala

Serena Williams revealed that she, is expecting her second child during Monday’s Met Gala in New York making, a red carpet appearance with her husband, Alexis Ohanian— who affectionately placed his hand over his wife’s baby bump.

“I don’t want it to be over, but at the same time I’m ready for what’s next.”

Williams also shared the news on her Instagram with the caption:

“Was so excited when Anna Wintour invited the 3 of us to the Met Gala,” Williams said in a TikTok video on Monday evening.

The 23-time Grand Slam winner announced her “retirement” from competitive tennis in August 2022, —in an essay with Vogue.

“It’s the hardest thing that I could ever imagine,” Williams told Vogue. “I don’t want it to be over, but at the same time I’m ready for what’s next.”

The 41 year-old described the retirement as “evolving away from tennis” because she wanted to focus on her family.

Williams and Ohanian welcomed their daughter, Olympia, in 2017.
