A remake of the 1988 “Midnight Run,” which starred Robert De Niro, is under production at Universal. The remake will star Regina Hall and be produced by Jesse Collins.
Collins will produce under Jesse Collins Entertainment and Hall under RH Negative banner. De Niro will also help in producing alongside Jane Rosenthal for Tribeca.
Aeysha Carr, known for being a producer on shoes like “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” will be writing the script for the new adaptation.
The 1988 version starred De Niro as a bounty hunter trying to hunt down a former mafia accountant and “sensitive criminal” who is also being chased by a rival bounty hunter, the FBI, and his former mob boss after jumping bail.
The plot for the new film is being kept under wraps, but many expect it to be as comedic as the original.
Hall is best known for her roles in other comedies such as the “Scary Movie” franchise and “Girls Trip.” Her latest projects include “Me Time” alongside Mark Wahlberg and Kevin Hart, as well as the comedy “Honk for Jesus, Save Your Soul.”
The original film, directed by Martin Brest and written by George Gallo, earned $81.6 million worldwide during its release.
An official release date for the film is still unknown as it is currently under production.
