Michelle Williams, 41, gets real about depression, losing her father, and friendship with ex-fiancé Chad Johnson.
The singer appeared on The Real Daytime, Wednesday, May 26, to discuss her new book Checking In: How Getting Real About Depression Saved My Life — and Can Save Yours. Co-host Loni Love began the interview by offering condolences on the loss of Williams’s father, asking, “How are you doing? Williams replied, “I’m doing good. I was in a restaurant last week, and one of his favorite songs came on, and it’s by a funk band called Parliament, and I was like, oh my gosh, dad thank you for kind of peeking in on me by making sure that one of his jams came on. So we’re going through these holidays without him, so yesterday, my mother instructed us to come home for Fathers Day because that will be our first Fathers Day without him there. She still lives in Illinois, so we’re okay. You know I have moments where I’m weepy willow cause I miss him, I do.”

When asked if she still keeps in touch with her ex-fiancé and what the relationship taught her, Williams replied, “Yes, Chad and I are friends. All is well, and that relationship and that situation it taught me to hush. Y’all know what I say the spirit of hush, and I said the next time y’all see me about a relationship, either I’m going to be married or four kids in.”
The singer also talked about new music. Watch the full clip.
Williams is the host of “Checking In Conversations” and recently shared a group chat on her Instagram with fellow Destiny’s Child bandmates Beyoncé and Kelly.
