The word “cancer” had become a topic of communication in Brian’s life. So when the former Shell employee contemplated quitting his job of 33 years three times prior, on a particular day, a Friday, he just wanted to “find something else to do, something different to make a difference.” Though Brian didn’t quite know what he should be doing next, it took a friend to tell him, ‘Let’s talk about it,’ and so they did in his office for several hours until Brian knew that he wanted to “help someone.” The founder of Friday Harbour speaks about his non-profit, which provides free housing for cancer patients traveling to Houston, in this heartwarming interview.
