Arka Art Studio hosted an exhibit for twelve local artists to display their pieces for sale on Saturday, April 20th. The welcoming environment brought locals together to enjoy a variety of art pieces with music and beverages. Arka is a brand new studio and event space for artists and creative people to rent for photo shoots, exhibitions, pop- up shops, workshops, meetings and performances.

Estefania Quijada has owned this industrial space for about year. Her goal is to give an open environment to a variety of artwork. It is in the middle of Downtown Houston near the tourist attractions such as the museums and aquarium. The studio is perfect for people to stroll in when an event is taking place.

The art exhibit had clay and paint work displayed. One artist, Macy Partain, had three vibrant portraits  made with acrylic. She heard about the studio when a friend of hers showed her an artist call flyer for an upcoming group exhibition show in Houston. Macy submitted her work to Estefania and they had a meeting within the same week. After meeting with each other and hearing the future plans for Arka Art, Macy felt it was the perfect fit to show her work. When asked why it is important for her to display her work in an environment like Arka she said, “It was everything I was looking for in our community- a space to grow, experiment, share and appreciate art in all forms. I am excited to see the creative sharing that sprouts from its presence.”

Estefania hopes to have monthly exhibits and is constantly looking for new artists to work with. To rent or stay updated with events email [email protected] and follow them on Instagram at @arkaarthouston.
