In a recent interview with Variety, Shonda Rhimes discussed the eventual ending for the long-running show “Grey’s Anatomy.”

During the interview, the producer talked about different aspects of the show which is currently on its 18th season.

A large part of the discussion was the show’s inevitable end, which she said she has rewritten several times.

“I’ve written the end of that series, I want to say, a good eight times,” she said.

She went on to explain that every time she thought of concluding the show with a specific incident, she realized it was something that had already occurred.

“I was like, ‘And that will be the end!’ Or, ‘That’ll be the final thing that’s ever said or done!’ And all of those things have already happened. So I give up on that, you know what I mean?” she told Variety.

Although she didn’t reveal when the show would end, she did reveal that it is up to her to decide that.

“Am I the person who decides when the show is over? Yes. And I take full responsibility for that when or if everybody gets mad at me,” she said.

She added that Krista Vernoff, the show’s current showrunner, also has a majority of the responsibility when it comes to the show’s conclusion.

“Am I going to be the person who decides like what the final scene is? I don’t know!” she said.

Rhimes revealed that since handing off the position of showrunner, she isn’t sure how the show will end.

“If you’d asked me this question three years ago, or prior to Krista arriving, I would have said, “Yes, I can tell you exactly how it’s going to end.” But once you hand off the ball for real, it’s just different,” she said. “Creatively, I’ve handed off all the reins entirely,” she added.
