Queen Latifah To Star As Ursula In ABC's "The Little Mermaid"

“The Little Mermaid” is coming to ABC. The original feature film will air as a live TV musical not to be confused with Disney’s premiere of the live-action version featuring Halle Bailey. The network recently announced Queen Latifah, a music legend in her own right will play the role of Ursula.  The multi-talented star shared the news on Twitter.

“Fortunately I know a little magic.” Excited to be part of The Wonderful World of Disney Presents The Little Mermaid Live!

The musical idea came about in 2017, and brings together Disney and ABC. In a statement, the project is described as a “never-before-seen hybrid format.” Viewers can expect to see  “beautifully intricate sets and costumes, with music from the original.” It will be part live musical performances and a broadcast of the actual feature film.

In the original, Ariel (The Little Mermaid) is given the ability to walk on land by Ursula the sea witch, but must forego her voice for it to happen. Also announced, Shaggy will play the classic and loveable crab Sebastian with additional casting to follow.

The Little Mermaid Live! will air on Tuesday, Nov. 5 at 8 p.m. on ABC.
