Willow Smith decided to celebrate her new album “lately I feel EVERYTHING” but giving a full concert on Facebook Live on Friday.
The 20-year-old rockstar performed songs such as “Grow” featuring Avril Lavigne and gave a nod to the song that kicked off her singing career.
Willow performed “Whip My Hair,” which she released in 2010 at the age of 9.
“When I made ‘Whip My Hair,’ I didn’t really know that it was an important thing because I was just expressing my joy and I was just expressing myself,” she said in the Facebook Live video.
The song pushed her into her singing career and stuck as something she was recognized for for many years.
She mentioned how the song caused her to “spiral” because it wasn’t the only thing she wanted to be known for; Willow said that by trying to push that part of her away, she was pushing away who she is
“The core idea of ‘Whip My Hair’ is the core idea of all of my music, the genre just changes, but I’m saying the same thing every single time,” she said.
Being the hardcore rock star that she is, Willow shaved her head mid-performance.
“I’m always shaving my head at monumental times in my life, when things are really changing, and this is one of those moments,” she said.
