In an exclusive interview with BSM Magazine (Twins of Media), Grammy Award-winning gospel singer Tamela Mann discussed her new album, “Live Breathe Fight.” When asked about the inspiration behind the album’s title, she shared her thoughts.
“We’re living like Heaven is our destiny, breathing every breath with purpose and fighting until we get the victory. The last two years of my life have really been in a difficult place, meaning how the enemy was fighting against us, me, David (Mann), and even our core family. God just really used my producers and the writers I was writing with. It was like I was taking from my personal life, which I had never done when it came to an album like I did on this album, and putting myself out there and making myself vulnerable that I do want to live, I do deserve to live even in the midst of all the different ups and downs in life.
My prime goal is to do things for the kingdom of God because I’m faith-based. I’m aiming toward that and do not want to allow any distractions even though I know God is first, and then my family is second. Still, it was like the enemy was using it as a distraction versus as help if you get what I’m saying, and even how sometimes, when it comes to work, the enemy tries to bring in things to distract you from your family with your work.
Live Breathe Fight came from a personal place. This time, I’m really concentrating on praying and believing God, but I’m still moving forward into those things that God is calling me to do, so that’s where Live Breathe Fight came from.”
Mann expressed her vulnerability during the interview, especially when she became emotional and teared up while discussing her family. She commented on the significant division within families, where members are often pitted against each other and struggle to get along. “One thing I will say is family is all you have, and remember that we’re not enemies. We may disagree, but I’m not your enemy. Remember, let’s live and love because we’re sent here to do that. God sent his son because He loved us.

Mann went on to discuss the country reference on this album and the banjo-infused sound featured in the song “Working For Me.” When asked if she would welcome a Gospel collaboration with fellow Texas native and “Cowboy Carter” singer Beyoncé, who also recently announced her tour she said, “Yes, I would. If she would have little ole me, I would. I feel like if we can reach the masses, I’m willing to reach the masses if our messaging is right and to lift the hearts of people. That’s what we’re called to do.”
Mann who recently won two NAACP Image Awards including Outstanding Gospel/Christian Album for Live Breathe Fight and Outstanding Gospel/Christian Song for her chart-topping hit “Working For Me.” The category sweep was announced during the virtual ceremony of the Image Awards.
“I’m truly humbled and honored to be recognized by the NAACP for Live Breathe Fight and ‘Working For Me,’” said Tamela. “I’m grateful to God for allowing me to have this opportunity, and I’m thankful to the Image Awards for giving this music a platform to reach people.”
In addition, the renowned Gospel superstar shared exciting news during the interview about her upcoming tour, a new Tyler Perry (Madea) film, Mama Mann’s Kitchen, and a possible relationship tour.
