Friday, September 25th, The Buffalo Soldiers Museum hosted the “This Hits Home Drive-Thru Voters Rally” with R&B recording artist Leela James! During the event, James discussed how important it is to get registered to vote and why you should run to the polls this election season. A woman who wears many hats, James mentioned that while being a full-time mother/activist, she is currently working on her next album. Leela stated that this time during the pandemic has taught her “patience” while finding balance in it all.
At the event, volunteers from the Houston area made it their civic duty to register as many people as possible to vote. As cars drove through the designated parking lot, volunteers greeted them with a smile and registration form from a safe distance, following the COVID-19 guidelines put in place. The entire group of volunteers were masked up and sporting “dope to vote” t-shirts to emphasize why voting matters. At the end of the event, volunteers and newly registered voters spent the afternoon jamming out to the latest hits with local Houston DJ, DBaby.
This election season, make sure your voice is heard by running to the polls and making your vote count!
