One wrong number text led to a lasting friendship for Wanda Dench and Jamal Hinton, and now their story is becoming a film.
In 2016, Jamal Hinton shared screenshots of an accidental text Wanda Dench sent him, which she intended to send to her grandson.
In the original text, Dench was sending an invitation for Thanksgiving dinner, and after clearing up the mix-up, she still invited Hinton, and he accepted.

Dench and Hinton have spent every Thanksgiving together for the last six years and share pictures of their new tradition with their followers. This year was an emotional one. Dench’s husband passed away from COVID in 2020. The family placed a picture of Lonnie Dench at the head of the table in his honor.

“We are excited to share our story with the world. We hope it inspires more people to reach out and make connections that they wouldn’t ordinarily make. We are so blessed to find a genuine friendship brought together by God from a mistaken text message,” said Dench and Hinton in a joint statement provided by Netflix.
Hinton shared the news on his social media with a caption that read, “I am very excited to announce our new partnership with Netflix. We thank every single one of you for your love and support in our journey the last 6 years. We can’t wait to tell our story on the big screen!”
