LaShawn Daniels

The music community is mourning the loss of Grammy award-winning songwriter LaShawn Daniels who created some of the most legendary R&B songs in history. Daniels died in a fatal car crash Wednesday, his wife April Daniels wrote in a recent post on Instagram “It is with deep and profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, family member, and friend LaShawn Daniels, who was a victim in a car accident in South Carolina.” Daniels being an extraordinary music creator has written songs for Michael Jackson, Destiny’s Child, Monica and Toni Braxton just to name a few.

Daniels truly lived his best life and accomplished so many milestones placed before him. The writer earned a Grammy Award in 2001—for Best R&B Song for the hit single “Say My Name,” sung by Destiny’s Child; because of his hard work and love for the arts, he was nominated again in the same category for Tamar Braxton’s 2004 hit, “Love and War.”

Many celebrities continue to send their love and condolences to the Daniels family. “The entire music community is feeling the loss of one of the greatest to ever do it… LaShawn Daniels… we just stood together a week ago. No words…” Kirk Franklin wrote on twitter.

Ari Lennox also named Daniels as “A Legend,” in a twitter post where she also added, “Thank you for creating some of the most powerful songs ever, Rest in Heaven KING.”

April Daniels asks that everyone “please respect the privacy of our entire family during this difficult time.”
