Karrueche Tran recently made history by becoming the first woman of Asian Pacific descent to win the Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Performance by a Lead Actress for her role on “The Bay.” She appeared on The Tamron Hall Show to talk a bit about the path that led her to this success.
Hall congratulated Tran for her historic win, something Tran admitted she downplayed at first.
“I didn’t think I was gonna win,” she said. “Then I won and I was like, ‘Oh my God!’ and I was crying and I was emotional.”
Her acting skills are what earned her an Emmy, and they are something she says she worked hard for.
Tran said a small role in the Fright Night Files was what sparked something in her, leading to an interest in pursuing acting in a more serious manner.
“From there I started doing the background work and started taking acting classes and media training classes and just doing the homework,” said Tran.
She admitted that there were times she wanted to give up on acting because she wasn’t being cast for any roles.
“I was like ‘Damn, this sucks. These days I’m not doing something right,'” she said. “But, I listened to what my body was telling me, I listened to that little voice in the back of my head that said ‘Don’t give up, keep pushing.'”
Despite being a great actress, Tran receives a lot of media attention for her dating life.
“I’m a relationship girl,” she said. “So, it’s hard to keep it public when I just want to be out and be in the public.”
Tran admitted that she would like people to focus more on her career moves, and said she thinks social media contributes to a lot of the negative talk.
“I feel like with social media it’s always about gossip and drama and who you’re dating and who you’re with, and I just wanted to really focus on my career and myself,” she said.
Tran has also taken her business ventures outside of acting by creating her line of jewelry, something which was inspired by her background in styling.
“I started off as a personal stylist,” said Tran. “I’ve always had a love and passion for fashion.”
This passion is something she said helps bring inspiration to her red carpet looks and makes it easier to collaborate with her stylists.
