Jeannie Mai’s journey to winning the mirror ball with dance partner Brandon Armstrong has come to an end. “The Real Daytime” talk show host was hospitalized after being diagnosed with epiglottitis, a potential life threatening inflammatory condition that can cause swelling and block airflow to the lungs, according to the Mayo Clinic.
Mai confirmed the news to GMA that she has to leave “DWTS” because of the diagnosis.
“My doctors discovered a health concern with my throat which requires immediate attention and surgery,” she told “Good Morning America” in an exclusive statement. “I am heartbroken that my DWTS journey has to end here.”
“I have pushed myself to new limits physically and mentally, and I am so proud of how far we’ve come,” she added.
Mai, who has received numerous support from her fans and “The Real” cohosts, almost faced elimination a week before taking to Instagram to express her gratitude.
“Whoa. It was surreal to almost be eliminated.”
Cohosts, Loni Love, and Garcelle Beauvais also shared their well wishes on Instagram.
We wish Jeannie Mai good health.
