Danai-Gurira

Danai Gurira lands a starring role as Shirley Chisholm in a new film about Chisholm’s 1972 presidential run titled The Fighting Shirley Chisholm.

Chisholm, the first Black woman elected to Congress in 1968, became the first woman to run for the Democratic Party’s nomination.

The project is not considered a biopic. Instead, the film will focus on Chisholm’s boundary-breaking campaign and its significant impact on America’s youth during its time.

Gurira, who recently wrapped up her time playing Michonne on AMC’s The Walking Dead, is also set to reprise her role as Okoye in the Black Panther sequel.

Ramy‘s Cherien Dabis will direct the film, with Silicon Valley‘s Adam Countee writing the script.
