Chadwick Boseman’s life was celebrated in a private memorial service in Malibu a week after the Black Panther actor passed away from colon cancer Friday, August 28, at the age of 43.
The wife of Boseman, Taylor Simone Ledward, and Black Panther co-stars Lupita Nyong’o, Michael B. Jordan, and Winston Duke was among those present on Saturday as “flowers and photos of the actor decorated the oceanside venue.”
Boseman, who performed some of his most memorable screen work while ill, was diagnosed with stage III colon cancer in 2016. The private star chose to keep his condition from the public and focus his time and energy on acting and visiting terminally young patients in the hospital, often lifting children’s spirits through the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
During his four-year battle, Boseman “completed work on ten films while quietly taking breaks for surgeries and chemotherapy.” His acting roles ranged from playing Jackie Robinson in 42, James Brown in Get On Up, the Spike Lee’s Da 5 Bloods. His final movie, Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, in which he played a “young trumpet player with dreams of his big moment in the spotlight,” also stars Viola Davis as the title character. The musical drama will release on Netflix Nov. 27.
The family (Wife), friends, and industry peers of Chadwick Boseman continue to be in our thoughts and prayers.
