1091 Pictures announced that the indie drama “Runt” would be released in theaters on October 1.
The film stars Cameron Boyce, star of Disney Channel’s “Descendants” and “Jessie,” who suddenly passed away in 2019 at the age of 20 after an epileptic seizure.
In the film directed and co-written by William Coakley, Boyce plays Cal, a troubled high school teen who decides to take a stand after the adult figures in his life fail him and his friend group.
“This film is very important in the climate we live in today,” said Boyce’s parents.
“Cameron was incredibly proud of this film, and we believe his powerful performance will resonate deeply with all his fans throughout the world,” they added.
“Runt” producers added that they partnered with The Cameron Boyce Foundation and the Wielding Peace initiative to promote peace and spread awareness of the consequences of gun violence.
The foundation was founded in July 2019 to continue Cameron Boyce’s legacy and raise awareness and funds for epilepsy and SUDEP research.
The film will also star Nicole Elizabeth Berger, Aramis Knight, Brianna Hildebrand, Cyrus Arnold, Jason Patric, Charlie Gillespie, and Tichina Arnold.
1091 Pictures acquired the film back in June and announced that its VOD and digital platform release would be October 19.
