Houstonians and Chopped and Screwed fans have gone crazy after the trailer of, “All Screwed Up,” a docuseries of Houston’s DJ Screw was leaked on social media earlier this week.
Director Isaac “Chill” Yowman and the “All Screwed Up” team gathered up and held a press conference on Friday, January 24. at City Hall to clarify any information regarding the production. Yowman states that the production is still in the works and there’s no set release date, nor an official network.
The production is to highlight the life of Screw, whose real name was Robert Earl Davis Jr., on how his fame began. The Houston legend “had a compelling life as a ground-breaking DJ and inventor of a signature style that has transformed pop culture and music for two decades and spring-boarded the careers of some of the biggest names in hip hop. His slowed down chopped and screwed technique has been featured in Academy and Golden Globe award-winning films and on dozens of multi-platinum billboard chart-topping songs. Artists like Beyoncé, Drake, Jay-Z, Kanye West, Lil Wayne, Travis Scott, and Kendrick Lamar have been influenced heavily by his pioneering sound. In 2000, he died of a codeine overdose in his studio.
Actor Rosha Washington will be playing the role of Screw; rapper Lil’ Keke, who is a member of the Screwed Up Click, D-Reck of Wreckshop Records, and DJ Screw’s sister, Michelle Wheeler will serve as the producers. “This series is to show unity,” said Yowman.
During the press conference, Ashley Turner, daughter of Mayor Sylvester Turner, presented Wheeler a proclamation for January 24 as DJ Screw Day.
