The 21st BET Awards, hosted by Taraji P. Henson, took place on Sunday night. The show was packed with great performances as well as a list of amazing nominees. The show’s theme, “Year of the Black Woman,” honored black women, so it was no surprise to see so many powerful and talented black women take home many of the big awards.
Here is a look into some of the night’s award winners.
Andra Day won the award for Best Actress.
H.E.R took home the Best Female R&B/Pop Artist award after a show-stopping performance of her song “We Made It.”
After her on-stage performance, Megan Thee Stallion accepted awards for Best Female Hip Hop Artist, Video of the Year, and the Viewers Choice Award.
After performing her new song “Tragic” and “On It” with Ari Lenox, Jazmine Sullivan won Album of the Year for her album “Heaux Tales.”
Silk Sonic took home the Best Group award and later performed their popular single “Leave the Door Open.”
The Best Male Hip Hop Artist went to Lil Baby.
The great honor of receiving BET’s Lifetime Achievement Award went to Queen Latifah. When accepting her award, Queen Latifah said, “Black is beautiful. I was raised by strong black women. We can’t live without each other. Celebrate. Celebrate us so together we stand stronger.”
