The last time Shakira co-headlined a show was with Jennifer Lopez at Super Bowl LIV in Miami, Florida. This time, the ‘Hips Don’t Lie’ singer will share the stage with Madonna and BTS in the first-ever FIFA World Cup Final Halftime from MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, July 19.
In what organizers call a ““singular moment” that will broadcast live around the world, “Colombian superstar Shakira is due to release the official World Cup song, “Dai Dai,” on Thursday, which features Nigerian singer Burna Boy. She has also recorded songs for previous World Cups, including “Waka Waka” from 2010 and “La La La” from 2014.”
The halftime acts scheduled to perform, reflect the “global popularity of the game.” Along with Shakira, “Pop legend Madonna is set to release her album “Confessions on a Dance floor II” on July 3 and recently appeared with Sabrina Carpenter at Coachella.” and “K-pop icons BTS made a long-awaited return to the stage in Seoul in March after a nearly four-year hiatus for military service and solo endeavors.” Coldplay’s Chris Martin is curating the halftime show.
While The Super Bowl is a major drawing factor when it comes to halftime. It’s not yet typical in global soccer, so it will be interesting to see how the 15-minute window pans out, or will fans request more from the performances, to which, the only one who can extend the time is the referees.
