Eddie Murphy and Australian model Paige Butcher are married. The couple, who first got engaged in September 2018 after dating since 2012, exchanged vows in a private Caribbean ceremony with family and close friends in attendance.
According to People magazine, which also shared exclusive photos from the ceremony, Murphy and Butcher got married on Tuesday, July 9, in Anguilla during a small private ceremony in front of family and close friends.
Murphy is a father of 10, including his youngest two, an 8-year-old daughter, and a 5-year-old son with Butcher, and the comedian values family over everything. When accepting the Cecil B. DeMille Award at the 2023 Golden Globe Awards, he thanked his then-fiancée and his children: “I want to say thank you to Paige and all of my amazing children for your love, support, and inspiration.”
This is the second marriage for Murphy and the first for Butcher and comes on the heels of his return as Axel Foley in the film Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F. It is the fourth installment from the original that debuted in 1984.
During an appearance on the Today show, Murphy joked about reprising the role, “It felt like old man. I did Beverly Hills Cop when I was 21, and I’m 63 now.”
“Beverly Hills Cop was my first movie that I’m the lead in. If I travel overseas they call me Axel Foley,” he said. “Axel is an everyman. He’s not a superhero or a super-cop, he’s the everyman that rises to the occasion. I think that’s why people like it. And more than anything, he’s funny.”
New movie. New marriage. New beginnings. Congratulations, Mr. and Mrs. Murphy!
