Legendary Hip-Hop Artist and Actor DMX Has Died

After days of prayer and well wishes, legendary hip-hop artist and actor DMX has died. The rapper went into the hospital on April 2 after suffering a heart attack in his New York home. His ex-manager and lawyer put out statements saying, “At this time, he remains in ICU in critical condition. Earl has been a warrior his entire life” and that he was “in a vegetative state, [with] lung and brain failure and no brain activity.” 

Today a representative from his family released a statement saying,

 “We are deeply saddened to announce today that our loved one, DMX, birth name of Earl Simmons, passed away at 50-years-old at White Plains Hospital with his family by his side after being placed on life support for the past few days. Earl was a warrior who fought till the very end. He loved his family with all of his heart, and we cherish the times we spent with him. Earl’s music inspired countless fans across the world, and his iconic legacy will live on forever. We appreciate all of the love and support during this incredibly difficult time. Please respect our privacy as we grieve the loss of our brother, father, uncle, and the man the world knew as DMX. We will share information about his memorial service once details are finalized.”

The beloved artist was 50, and throughout his career, he produced and sold mixtapes and built a fanbase all over the US. He released his first single, Get at Me Dog and it went gold. His album It’s Dark and Hell Is Hot debuted at number 1 on the Billboard 200 eventually going platinum five times over. His second album, Flesh of My Flesh, Blood of My Blood, sold 4 million copies and debuted at number 1.

Along with a rap career, DMX stole our hearts again in the late 90s with his first film Belly a Hype Williams project with Taral Hicks, Method Man, and T-Boz of TLC. 

Fans took to social media to mourn the death of the late artist.
