Singer and actor Tyrese Gibson announced on Instagram Wednesday that he and his wife Samantha are divorcing after four years of marriage. The news followed a previous post where the “Black and Blue” star shared a video tribute of their times as husband and wife and a family.
“Pain got me back in the holy grail… [ the studio ] No there’s no album coming this was inspired by the love of my life Samantha…. Thank you for the years I hope you know that I did the very best I could… I truly did… #BetterDays”
In his transparency, Gibson expressed how hard it is to be something you did not experience growing up. That most black males were raised in single-parent homes. Likely with their mothers and without real examples of what a husband or father looked like in their lives.
“I’ve wrestled with this question… How can we naturally know how to BE something we were never raised by?
Most of us were raised in broken homes with NO examples of what being a husband, wife or FATHER is….
I repeat…. How can we naturally know how to BE something we were never raised by?
My heart is so full because you’ve blessed me with 5 years of magic…. Samantha Gibson, I owe you everything.

Though no one knows what led to the couple’s decision to end their union, we hope they both find peace and understanding as they remain the best of friends and co-parent responsibly.
The couple married in 2017 and are the parents of 2-year-old daughter Soraya. Gibson is also a father to Shayla Somer Gibson,13, with ex Norma Gibson.
