LeToya Luckett recently shared in an Instagram Live session that she experienced many difficulties after leaving the girl group Destiny’s Child, including homelessness and money struggles.

Along with fellow band-mate LaTavia Roberson, Luckett left the group before it reached its peak due to a dispute with management. The group was then managed by Beyonce’s dad Matthew Knowles. In the end, both Luckett and Roberson were replaced by Michelle Williams and Farrah Franklin. Franklin left the group six months after joining due to her issues within the girl band. Destiny’s Child then became a trio with Beyonce, Kelly Rowland, and Michelle Williams until the group disbanded in 2005.

Although Luckett was one of the original members after leaving Destiny’s Child, she didn’t have much to show for it in the end.

“I was staying at people’s houses,” she said in a recent I.G. Live. “I’ll never—I’ve never said it. I’ve never told these stories before. I slept in a car in L.A. while I was making my first album. Not a lot of nights, but you know what I’m saying?”

Luckett also shared that she lived in hotels when she wasn’t living in those places, surviving on noodles and water. “I was drinking a gallon of water and buying the microwavable oodles of noodles,” she continued, as she wiped away her tears.

However, hard times for Luckett didn’t last for long. In 2006 she released a successful solo album titled LeToya, which produced several hit singles, including the popular breakup ballad “Torn.” Along with releasing more music throughout the years, Luckett has solidified herself as a serious actress with her most recent role as Rochelle Cross/ Rochelle James on the popular OWN’s Greenleaf that ended its series run this summerOther T.V. credits include VH1’s Single LadiesPreacher’s Kid, and VH1’s T.I. & Tiny: Friends & Family Hustle.

The mother of two soon to be three said on Family Hustle that she is still friends with her former bandmates, per Page Six. Even reuniting with Beyonce in 2018 at a stop on the singer’s “On the Run II” tour, Luckett posted a photo of the two on Instagram.

These days, Luckett is awaiting her baby boy’s arrival, and so are many of her fans! We wish the beautiful singer and actress a safe and healthy delivery.

Just like Luckett, yes, you can make it out of difficult situations if you don’t give up. In the meantime, “Be kind to others; you never know what they are going through.” Words that were relevant then and stories that are even more relevant today.
