Will Smith issued an apology to Chris Rock for the infamous Oscars slap that happened on March 27. In the five-minute video released to the actor’s social media accounts, which he hasn’t posted since a day after the televised academy awards show, Smith speaks about the event in the pre-recorded interview.
Here are three key moments from the video.
The Apology: Smith appearing sorrowful, sends out a message to Rock “Chris, I apologize to you. My behavior was unacceptable, and I’m here whenever you’re ready to talk.
Remorse: The clip also addresses questions many have wanted to know, like “Why didn’t you apologize to Chris in your acceptance speech? Smith’s response, “I was fogged out by that point. It was all fuzzy. I’m deeply remorseful, and I am trying to be remorseful without being ashamed of myself. I’m human, and I made a mistake.”
Time: It doesn’t appear that Rock is ready to have that sit-down talk just yet. Smith shares, “I reached out to Chris.” The message that came back is that he is not ready to talk, and when he is, he will reach out.
Hours after Smith’s apology was posted, Rock addressed the video in a comedy stop in Atlanta over the weekend.
“Anyone who says words hurt has never been punched in the face!” Rock added, “If everybody claims to be a victim, then nobody will hear the real victims.”
We hope these two talented comedians/actors will be able to sit down together soon and discuss the matters further privately.
