The upcoming series Mixed-ish is set to premiere on ABC and the new series is a spinoff of Black-ish and Grown-ish created by Kenya Barris and Peter Saji and songbird Mariah Carey is tapped to sing the theme song.
Fans can’t seem to get enough of Black-ish so the creators followed up with a new show that travels back in time to follow Dr. Rainbow “Bow” Johnson in her childhood. The new series is based upon a mixed family who lives in the era of the mid-80s and their adjustment to living in a suburban area. Arica Himmel plays young Bow, Tika Sumpter (Bow’s mom) as Alicia Johnson and Mark Paul Gosselaar (Bow’s dad) as Paul Johnson. The couple move from their hippie community to a place they didn’t know existed in surburbia land. They’ll take on dealing with changes in their family as the kids find their own identity being both black and white.
The new show follows in the footsteps of the previous spinoff, Grown-ish which stars Yara Shahidi (Zoey Johnson) and her experiences in college.
Mixed-ish debuts on ABC, Tuesday, September 24 at 9/8c, after the Season 6 premier of Black-ish.
