Markie Post of 'Night Court' Dies at 70

TV veteran Markie Post has died at the age of 70 after a long battle with cancer.

Her manager, Ellen Lubin Sanitsky, said that Post died on Saturday in Los Angeles.

The actress had a presence in television for forty years and is best known for her role on NBC’s “Night Court” in which she appeared for seven seasons.

She began her work on television behind the camera, where she worked on the production crew of game shows “Double Dare” and “Card Sharks.” Her first acting role was in the action-adventure series “Fall Guy,” where she played Terri Michaels from 1982 to 1985.

Post’s most notable role was that of public defender Christine Sullivan in the municipal court sitcom “Night Court.” Her character was known for being a strong-willed woman who often had comedic rebuttals against Dan Fielding in the show.

She also had roles in “There’s Something About Mary,” “Scrubs,” and “The A-Team.” The actress appeared in the Lifetime movie “Christmas Reservations” and guest-starred on ABC’s “The Kids Are Alright” while she was undergoing chemotherapy treatment.

In a statement, Post’s family said: “Our pride is in who she was in addition to acting; a person who made elaborate cakes for friends, sewed curtains for first apartments and showed us how to be kind, loving and forgiving in an often harsh world.”

Her “Night Court” co-star John B. Larroquette and “The Kids Are Alright” co-star Mary McCormack shared loving messages remembering the late actress on their Twitter.
