Julie Bowen and her sister Dr. Annie Luetkemeyer were hiking at Arches National Park when their guide noticed a woman who had fallen forward.
The woman that had fallen was Minnie John of Oradell, New Jersey, who later took to Facebook to tell the story of her unlikely heroes.
John had gone to Arches National Park to cross hiking to Delicate Arch off her bucket list, when she suddenly started feeling unwell.
Along with her husband and son, she had hiked for an hour and a half and could not go any further. She told her husband and son to continue without her as she rested along the trail.
It was during that break that Julie Bowen’s guide noticed John fall face forward on a rock where her glasses were able to break the fall.
When being assisted, John said she recognized the voice of one of her helpers and said, “Her sister the doctor asked me to guess and I told her I just hit my head, I can’t remember. She said smiling ‘Modern Family’ and I said of course!”
After helping John clean up, Bowen and her group gave her some electrolytes and assured her she’d be fine.
John said that the fall resulted in a fractured nose and that she received five stitches at the hospital. She thanked God for sending people to help.
“Daredevil or dumb as can be, I still consider this trek up the mountain as one of my proudest achievements in my life,” John said in her Facebook post.
