Garcelle Beauvais stars in the new Lifetime movie “Terry McMillan Presents: Tempted By Love.” The actress and TV host spoke with Good Morning America about her role and being a producer.
“Terry McMillian has been in my head and my household for years so getting a chance with Lifetime to create Tempted by Love was just like a pinch-me moment and so when we came up with the idea of a May to December romance, we wanted to keep it real we didn’t want to just gloss over it, it’s not about a hot woman with a younger man she talks about real things.”
Beauvais joked that she tried to date younger men and then laughed it off, saying that she was kidding when asked if she did anything to prepare.
“I didn’t do that. To prepare for the role I really wanted to get the chef part because my character Ava is a Michelin Chef, so I really wanted to master that, and I know how to cook but I wanted to look like a chef, so I went to YouTube University and studied really hard and it was fun.”
Beauvais spoke about her love interest Luke (Vaughn W. Hebron) in the film and their onscreen chemistry “We were really looking for an actor that was young enough, but man of enough so you believe that he would get a woman like that and so we found Vaughn Hebron, and he was great.”
In a light-hearted segment, Beauvais playfully flirted with Michael Strahan. When GMA’s on-air personality Lara Spencer asked if her love life would be featured on RHOBH, she responded, “You have to show as much as you can and it’s hard to find someone that’s going to fit that mold, so Michael next season will you come on?” Leaving Strahan blushing when he affectionately laughed and responded with these words “I’m blushing you ever see a black man blush? This is what it looks like.” The actress then went on to say, “If I were in a relationship right now, I wouldn’t want it to be on the show. I think there are some things you gotta keep sacred.”
Fun fact: the model infamously coined the phrase during the pandemic “Don’t care how bored you get, don’t text your ex,” In an exclusive interview with BSM Magazine [Circa 2020]. The Beauvais-isms on dating have certainly given us a fresh perspective on the idea of rekindling romance with an ex.
Beauvais concluded the interview by emphasizing the reasons why viewers should tune in. “I think it gives women hope about finding love at any age and being open. We talk about my character has arthritis, is going through menopause and I think that’s a real conversation to have, and it also connected them [Ava and Luke] because he’s going through something. So, it doesn’t matter you can be going through all those things and still feel sexy and intimate and find love.”
Lela Rochon and Loretta Devine also star in the Lifetime movie.
