Eddie Murphy will be collaborating with Amazon Studios after signing a three-picture first-look film deal.
Under this deal, Murphy will be starring in three Amazon Studio films and help develop original projects for Prime Video and Studios.
The deal stemmed from the success “Coming 2 America” had on Amazon Prime.
The film became the most-watched movie on Amazon Prime during its opening weekend. The streaming service picked up the movie from Paramount in 2020 for $125M.
“Eddie is a legend both in front of and behind the camera. With undeniable comedic and dramatic genius, he consistently delivers entertaining, original stories and characters to audiences around the world. We could not be more excited to help carry on the tradition and to officially welcome Eddie into the Amazon family,” said Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon Studios, in a statement.
During its opening weekend, “Coming 2 America” became the most streamed move and had the number one opening weekend of any streaming movie in 2021.
Murphy is well known for his comedy and films such as “Daddy Day Care” and has won two Golden Globes for his role on Netflix’s “Dolemite Is My Name.” He has also been awarded an Emmy for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series on Saturday Night Live.
Murphy’s most recent project is on Netflix’s “Beverly Hills Cop 4” which he produces and stars in.
