More Love, Peace and Soul! The BET original scripted show ‘American Soul’ was renewed for a second season.
The one-hour drama chronicles the life and times of Soul Train host Don Cornelius played by Sinqua Walls (Power, The Breaks). “The series ranks as the top cable scripted drama among BET’s core audience of African Americans 18-49 and total viewers. It stars Sinqua Walls and hails from Jesse Collins Entertainment.”
Season one featured musical legends; Gladys Knight (Kelly Rowland), Diana Ross (Michelle Williams), Rufus Thomas (Bobby Brown) and Gabrielle Dennis (Tina Turner) as a few of the stars who helped Cornelius’ show become the popular staple in black american homes.
The well received series explores Cornelius’ sacrifice to leave his family behind and make the dream of creating Soul Train a reality. It was a journey that connected him with the likes of Gerald Aims (Jason Dirden, Greenleaf)—an established gangster and club owner who becomes Cornelius’ close associate when he introduces him to the decadent world of LA.
American Soul also stars Grammy-nominated Kelly Price, Iantha Richardson (This Is Us), Christopher Jefferson, Katlyn Nichol, and Jelani Winston.
The season finale airs Tuesday, April 9th 10/9c.
