Titled ‘The Six Triple Eight,’ the film was written, directed, and produced by Tyler Perry. It tells the untold story of the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion, the only troop of Black women and women of color to serve in Europe during World War II. Kerry Washington, the executive producer, produced the film and starred as Major Charity Adams, the troop’s commander. She led a battalion of 855 women who played a crucial role in the war effort by sorting through a three-year backlog of mail—17 million pieces—which significantly improved the military’s morale.
