Serena Williams Announces Her Retirement

Who can you imagine a world without Serena Williams playing tennis? Williams cannot believe it herself in an interview in the September issue of Vogue.

“I’ve been reluctant to admit that I have to move on from playing tennis. It’s like a taboo topic. It comes up, and I start to cry. I think the only person I’ve really gone there with is my therapist.”

Williams says, “I’ve never liked the word retirement.” Instead, she prefers the term evolution to include everyone on this journey with her. She expressed her emotions in a recent Instagram post in a picture wearing a light blue dress for the Vogue cover story. Captured in the second picture is daughter Olympia holding her mother’s train.

“There comes a time in life when we have to decide to move in a different direction. That time is always hard when you love something so much. My goodness do I enjoy tennis. But now, the countdown has begun. I have to focus on being a mom, my spiritual goals and finally discovering a different, but just exciting Serena. I’m gonna relish these next few weeks.” ?

Serena Williams “revolutionized women’s tennis with her powerful style of play and for winning more Grand Slam singles titles (23) than any other woman or man during the open era.”

Yeah, we can’t imagine the sport of tennis without her. And in the words of actress Gabrielle Union, she’s the “Greatest of all time!!!!”
