Tamar Braxton Is Ready to Start “Moving Forward”

In a recent interview with PEOPLE magazine, Tamar Braxton opened up about her life one year after a suicide attempt.

The reality star and podcaster recently decided to speak out about her suicide attempt on July 16, 2020.

The star was found unresponsive by her then-boyfriend David Adefeso and rushed to the hospital.

“I didn’t see how I was going to come out on the other side. I didn’t even know that there was another side. But I chose to change my life.” she told PEOPLE.

Although the actress didn’t go into detail about her attempt, she said the cause was “just everyday life, trying to figure out how to get through the day and then.”

At the time, Braxton was in the middle of filming her WE TV docuseries “Tamar Braxton: Get Ya Life!”

Despite not showing it on screen, Braxton says she realized she hadn’t gotten over the trauma of being sexually abused as a child, an experience that was brought up without her consent in 2018.

“It was coming out in how I dealt with things emotionally, how I looked at situations, how I conducted myself,” she said.

Braxton said that during the filming of her show, she was dealing with personal issues offscreen.

“After a scene, I’d watch it back, and it would be nothing like how it went down,” she said.

Braxton told PEOPLE that one of the many things that impacted her suicide attempt was the thought of her son.

“In my sickness, I thought that I can take the embarrassment out of his life, maybe he would have a chance to have the best life,” said Braxton.

After gaining clarity, she realized that “probably would have destroyed him.”

A year since the incident, Braxton is now committed to motherhood and bettering herself.

“I’m dedicated to being the best mom, the best person I can be. I am moving forward,” she said.

Braxton now sees a life coach and psychiatrist three times a week and is focusing on other projects including her podcast, “Under Construction,” which is trying to break the stigma of mental health by talking to other celebrities about their experiences.
