Mariah Carey

Fall has come and will soon leave us. As the temperatures decrease, it’s the perfect time to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Mariah Carey’s classic “All I Want For Christmas Is You.”

The award-winning singer and songwriter released the festive Christmas song on October 29,1994, and it has been breaking records every year for 25 years. The song is the highest charted holiday single in the world, and each year, Carey adds something new to make the tune even more legendary. I know I’m not the only one who plays it on repeat while wrapping presents each holiday season.

In a recent Instagram post, Carey was dressed as an 80’s rocker for Halloween. She can be seen asleep and then waking up to the most beautiful time of the year. Before the video ends, the mother of two receives a call from Santa, and enthusiastically tells fans, “It’s time, it’s time!”

Co-writer Walter Afanasieff shared in a previous 2013 interview with Business Insider that he was shocked at the success of the holiday jingle, due to the song not being traditional.

“My first reaction was, ‘That sounds like someone doing voice scales,” said Afanasieff. “Are you sure that’s what you want?” Carey being the creative artist stayed true to herself and the vision she wanted for the album. Fast forward twenty-five years later and “All I Want For Christmas” has a 99% Spotify streaming increase since the beginning of October. ‘Tis the season.
