Beyoncé Leads in Nominations For NAACP Image Awards

Nominations, for the 51st NAACP Image Awards, were announced, and Beyoncé leads with eight nods, which include Homecoming: The LIVE Album for “Outstanding Album.” Singer and songwriter Lizzo follows closely behind with six nominations that include her single “Truth Hurts.”

Harriet starring Cynthia Erivo leads in the film category. While names like Angela Bassett, Regina King, Tyler Perry, Billy Porter, and Lizzo each received nominations for “Entertainer of the Year.”

The NAACP Image Awards— honors the accomplishments of people of color in the fields of television, music, literature, and film and also recognizes individuals or groups who promote social justice through creative endeavors.

Shows like “black-ish” (ABC) and “Dear White People” (Netflix) received nominations for Outstanding Comedy Series, and the streaming network giant also leads with 30 Nominations in the Television Categories.  

For Outstanding Drama Series, shows competing for an award includes “Godfather of Harlem” (EPIX), “Greenleaf” (OWN), “Queen Sugar” (OWN), “The Chi” (Showtime), and “Watchmen” (HBO).

The two-hour live TV special will air on BET Networks Saturday, February 22, 2020.
